Day 1: In The Beginning SLJ

Activity 1: The Legend of New Zealand

Fact #1:
New Zealand was one of the first nations to ever have Universal
Suffrage. Which means New Zealanders were one of the first countries
To not have the right to vote. This is really sad because I think every
Country and every person in the world should have every right to vote. Then in 1893 all male and female citizens were legally allowed to vote.

Fact #2:
Aotearoa was the first country to have there 3 top positions of decisions and power held at the same time by women. The three top positions were Prime Minister Helen Clark, Governor General Dame Silvia Cartwright and the Chief Justice Sian Elias.  This shows that all women and girls can be anything they want if they put their mind to it and work hard.

Fact #3:

Did you know that Gisborne is the first city in the entire world to see the sunrise. That is so amazing because there city is the only city in the world to see the sunrise first. The reason why they see the sunrise first is because they are 496.3 km away from the International date line. That is so amazing!

Activity 2: North and South I live in a beautiful part of the north Island and have an amazing
community in Glen Innes also known as GI. As you can already
probably guess yes I live in Glen Innes. We have lots of farm cattle
down at Pt England reserve and sports fields where we can play
and spend time with our families. We often get lots of opportunities
at school and always take them. I would say we are a spectacular
community and we are unlike others because we share community
events together, have lots of art on the walls that represent our
backrounds and cultures well, and we do lots of sporting events
and exchanges with other schools in our community.

Activity 3: Ice, Ice Baby

This here is my Digital footprint. I have one major tip on being cyber smart and leaving a positive feedback footprint.
Also another way on being positive is always commenting on other learners blogs. That is a great way to stay positive with amazing feedback.

I hope you enjoyed my SLJ day 1. Feel free to leave a positive comment on my blog.

Year 6 camp

I was so excited for camp that when we made it to Kawau Island I was so happy.
Everyone was filled with excitement and Joy. If you want to find out more about
my spectacular experience read on.

As we campers walked onto camp Bentzon we saw so many amazing things
around us. We were just about to sit down with our luggage but Mr Somerville
( Mr S ) said “ Come on team It’s time for killer hill”. Some of us were scared,
nervous and determined to take on the big hill and kill it. We started walking up
the terrifying hill and already our legs started to burn, our foreheads were
sweating and it was boiling hot. We were halfway up the hill but we still had
to go down to the other side and come back to the campsite. I looked down the
hill and it was so steep that I felt like I was about to fall from the sky tower.

After that fright I looked back up and Mr S, Mr J and some boys were at the top.
I really wanted to get there faster because I was scared of falling so I started
running and made it to the top. I looked out to the sea and it was a beautiful
view from the top. After a quick look we had to keep going but luckily it was
downhill for the rest of the time. We finally made it to Smeltons beach and the
old schoolhouse bay was right next to us. It was so cool to see the schoolhouse
bay. We had lunch, we played games and we relaxed with our friends.

Shortly after our fun we started our long journey back to camp Bentzon. We
were nearly at camp and we heard sounds coming from the bushes. Mr S spotted
a wallaby and told us to be very quiet. It was so small but it hopped off away
with it’s mum.  We finally made it to camp and after 3 hours of hiking we were
exhausted. A couple minutes later Mr Goodwin ( Mr G ) said that we could go
swimming so we ran to find our cabins, got changed and jumped in the water.
I was in a cabin with Marika, Eden, Jahzara and Pisirin. Then was freezing
cold but it felt nice after being in the boiling hot sun. All the campers that were
swimming swam to the pontoon where we all jumped off. It was so much fun
but we had to get ready for dinner. After getting ready for dinner we ate the
delicious food that Mrs Coop made, watched the princess bride and went to
sleep for our big day ahead of us.

It was the next day and Mr J blew the bugle for all of us to wake up. It was so
loud that Eden fell off her bed. After that we had our morning run which was
so tiring, got changed for our activities we were doing and had breakfast. We
then got sent off to our activities and my group Bentzon A were doing sailing.
We arrived to Peter who was the sailing instructor and he explained every single
instruction to us. He said “if you listen to these instructions you won’t fall out
of your optimist”. Then it was time to go sailing. I sat down in my optimist and
sailed away. This was my first time sailing so I got a bit mixed up but I
remembered Peters key instructions and followed them. I enjoyed my time
sailing and had lots of fun. I listened to Peters instructions and I didn’t fall out
of my optimist once.

It was time for the next activity Confidence course with Mr J and It looked
amazing. I saw so many things up high but that didn’t bother me so I gave
everything ago. My favourite task from the confidence course was when I had
to climb the huge poles of wood, hug my momma to get to the other side of the
wood and climb down the other side. After having fun with Mr J we moved
on to our next activities for the day and had so much fun. Later on it was night
and time to play spotlight. We got told all the rules then we ran off trying to
find the best spot possible. The game started and we only had 5 minutes to get
to the circle where you would be safe. So many people tried to run to the circle
but they got caught by the teachers and parent helpers.

The bugle went and there was only one person in the circle. It was Arthur,
we were all shocked. Mr S had added a new rule and it was called the freeze rule.
If a teacher spotted you and you were frozen they would have to let you go and
count to ten. We all ran off trying to find the ideal hiding spot, then we started.
I hid behind a large boat but I saw Mr G coming so I tried to stay silent. Jahzara
was in front of me and paige and Ayva were at the back. He spotted all of them
except for me so I stayed until he left, then I ran like I never ran before to the
circle and I made it. I was so happy then the round was over. So many more
kids made it when the freeze rule came in. After that we had many more rounds
and went to bed.

It was the next morning and Mr J blew the bugle again! It was so loud that he
made my ears pop. We all ran down to the field and started our morning run.
Up the big hill we went in our pyjamas and our legs were burning again! It
was so sore but we kept going. Everyone was motivating each other and myself
and marika were one of the first ones back to camp. Amira and Miss Parant
woke up late so we offered to run again with them. They didn’t want to do it
but we led them up the hill cheering them on. We ran down the hill then finally
made it back to camp. After the big run we had a nice big feed for breakfast.
Spaghetti on toast, mince on toast, cereal and fruit salad delicious!

We moved on to our next activities for the day and our first activity was
Abseiling. We walked over with Madi the instructor to the big wall. It was
so tall but I volunteered to go first. As I was climbing It started to poor and I
was drenched. It was so slippery that I said “ I can’t do it “ but my team cheered
me on and I made it to the top. I got buckled to another rope and came down. It
was just like rock climbing but we had nothing to hold onto except for the rope.
I was so happy that I did it and the rest of my team went and had so much fun.
We had so many fun activities for the rest of the day like rafting, kayaking and
the burma trail. After all of that we got ready for the big night. It was concert
night. We made our way to the volleyball court and sat down on our chairs then
the first Item went and it was Mansion! They started there dance and the songs
were All over and Run the world. It was so cool and I loved there cool dance
moves and they even added a skit in there Item. Then It was kawau with This
is me then Katz with I want you back. After all of that it was Bentzon’s turn
and our songs were the Fresh prince of bel air theme song and I wanna dance
with somebody. As we were doing I wanna dance with somebody we went to
grab Mr S, Mr J, Mr G and Miss Timmy. We had so much fun and everyone
was laughing and smiling. Then our dance finished and it was time to hear
who won. In 4th place was Kawau, in 3rd place was Katz, in 2nd place was
Mansion and in 1st place was Bentzon we were so happy that we won and
did our dance all over again.

Then it was the time everyone had been waiting for Camp King and camp
Queen. They first announced camp Queen and It was Me. I was so happy
but then camp king got announced and it was John. We were all laughing
then our night ended. Off to sleep we went and we would finally see our family
. It was the next day and as usual Mr J blew the bugle, we ran up and down the
hill then had breakfast. We finally packed all our bags, cleaned the rooms and
hopped on the boat. We left on the boat and it was so nice that we even stopped
to see a view of the mansion house. After a long hour on the boat we hopped on
the bus and had another long hour back to school. We all saw our parents and
that was year 6 camp 2018.

Photo's coming soon.

Term 4 reflection

This term and year has been amazing. We did lot’s of fun things and we even got to
go to gravity. I am very sad because this will be my last ever day in extension
and my last week at Pt England school as I’m going to a different school. I have
had so much fun at extension spending time with my friends and learning more.
have had lots of opportunities being in extension and at my school. One of the fun things I got to do was 3d pens. I got to create jewelry using a 3d pen and had lot’s of fun with it. A fun highlight was when all the extension students got to go to the museum ( Talanoa Program ) and learn about the pacific collection. It was so cool. We even got the chance to touch some pacific artifacts, take photos of them and learn more about what they were used for and where they came from.

Another highlight was from 40 hour famine. It was so much fun that we stayed
up till midnight because we played around, played games and had our amazing
concert. I remember my team the yellow team , Jane and Eva winning the
entire concert with our amazing dance.

Finally a highlight I will never forget is the xmas party that we had. We
had so much fun eating, dancing and having fun.

Overall I thought this year was my favourite year of all the time I was at pt England. I had so much fun with all my friends and teachers and I will never forget them.

Letter to fans

Walt: To tell your fans about what's happening
Dear Fans,
It’s me Levonah. If you were wondering why I haven’t been posting for a week
now it was because I was at camp. All the year 6's of Pt England went on a very fun
camp, and it was held on Kawau Island at camp named camp Bentzon. We did so
many activities and we were split into four separate groups. There was Katz the team
who wins every year, Kawau, Mansion and Bentzon. I was in Bentzon and we were so
determined to win. There will be a blog post coming soon about all the amazing things
I did and saw.
Task description: In this task room 7 had to create a post telling our fans where we had been and why we hadn't posted in a week.

Sponge Throw

Walt: In this task we were asked to write a successful recount.

Have you ever got the chance to get your teacher soaking wet?

Well this morning I certainly didn’t expect to be throwing freezing cold sponges at my teacher.
This was so exciting and at the end Mr Goodwin’s face ( Mr G ) was red from the hard slaps of sponge.
If you want to find out what happened read on.

On a normal school morning Mr G told us we were going to be having a lot of fun. He explained our
instructions and told us that we were walking down to the field. As we were walking he was holding
flippers, scuba gear and big fat googles. It made me think would he be swimming somewhere, but then
where would he swim. After a long walk to the field it was already boiling hot but you won’t believe what
we saw. Mr Sommerville ( Mr S ) and Mr J were all geared up with smiles on there face, and it didn’t
look good for the teachers one bit.

Firstly we got told our instructions and what the game was called. The name of the game was target
your teacher. We had to throw freezing cold sponges at our teacher so they could get as soaked as
possible. Than the fun began. Mr S said “executioners ( us ) are you ready”. We said yes than hard
chilly sponges went flying in the air and smacking our teachers. Loseti dipped his sponge in the freezing
water, then he chucked it so hard it hit Mr G’s face and made it red the entire time, but that’s not it the
story get worse.

Paschal was so excited to target Mr G that when he threw the sponge it hit a part of Mr G, that you
don’t want to know about. The game paused for a couple minutes, and everyone was laughing and
cheering Paschal on, because it was just so hilarious. Finally the game continued and it was my turn.
I looked Mr G in the eye and said I’m going to get you so bad. So I dipped the sponge in the cold Ice
water, aimed at my target and fired with all my strength that I hit his stomach so hard he was sore the
rest of the time. I wasn’t finished yet I grabbed the wet sponge and rubbed it all over his face so that he
could have a nice freezing cold wash.

After all of that our exciting fun time had ended and it was prizegiving. Three students got chose to
get there bucket and tip it all over their teachers head. Our winners were Chance, Loseti and
Paschal of course. They were all amazed when they got chosen and one by one they each tipped
the Ice cold water over Mr G’s head. He was soaked compared to the other teachers.

I had such a fun time with my friends. I recommend your class should do this activity to because
you will build a lot of friendships like we did. That activity was so fun and I wished it had never end.

Task description:
In this task room 7 had to create a successful piece of writing. Our writing Included us throwing freezing
cold sponges at our teachers so it could hit them as hard as possible. This was really fun when we
did it.

(Term 4) My Goals and expectations

Walt: use correct sentences to help structure our writing.
The school holidays are over and I’m really sad, but on the bright side I get to come to school and see my friends. I also get to share my work with everybody. The amazing theme for this term is Te Wa Toi and it’s all about what different kinds of art there are. I am really bad at art so I’m a bit excited to improve my art.

This term is so exciting because we are learning about what types of art we can use. Some other exciting things happening are The Manaiakalani Film Festival and Athletics. I am really excited because I can’t wait to see all the cool movies, and run my hard out at Athletics. Another exciting event happening this term is year 6 camp. I can’t wait to have a fun time with my friends.

One of my goals this term will be becoming a year 6 camp leader. If I want to become a camp Leader I have to step up and take leadership in everything I do. Another one of my goals is becoming sports women of the year. I want to become sports women of the year because I look up at my role models who are achieving so much in sports. My role models are my uncle and aunty who both represent the wallabies in rugby and the black ferns.

What I want to learn this term is about why art cost so much money and what’s the story behind that. The reason why I want to learn about that is because the Mona Lisa costs $ 810 million dollars and it’s not even worth that much. Another big thing I want to learn about is calligraphy writing. I want to learn how to hand write like that because I’m a bad hand writer and I want to improve on my hand writing skills.

Te Wa Toi will be a great term because I am excited for the exciting upcoming events. There’s a lot on this term with events like the Manaiakalani film festival, Year 6 camp and prize giving, so I can’t wait for that and to accomplish my goals I have set for myself. Overall this could be the best term I’ve ever had because of all the exciting events, and I can’t wait to blog about all these cool things.

Task description:
In this task room 7 had to write about the new term and what our amazing goals were going to be. We all had a big lesson on how to write a proper conclusion with Mr Goodwin. I thought this task was really fun, because we got to learn how to write a proper conclusion, and I also got to share my Goals and expectations to everyone. I enjoyed this task a lot and I hope we get to do this task again.

Rubbish pick up

This morning room seven went out to do something really fun that included rubbish. The best part is we’re helping our school, our area and our community. If you want to find out more read on.

In the beginning we all went out onto the reserve, as a small tight bunch. As we were walking I could feel the freezing cold breeze, flowing towards me. After quite a walk we finally made it to the reserve, and Mr Goodwin ( Mr G ) told us to get into five groups of five. After awhile of sorting kids into their groups, Mr G finally told us what we were about to do. He held up rubbish bags and said “you will be having a competition to see who can pick up the most rubbish out of every team, also the winners prize is ten minutes of something cool”. We were all so excited because we knew what the cool prize was.

Finally it was competition time. We had a lot of boundaries that we had to stay inside of, but that didn’t hold us back from trying to find every single piece of rubbish that we saw. Mr G blew his whistle and everyone raced to this one spot where there was so much rubbish. After that there were many more rounds, than it came to the last round in our own school on the field. We all saw lot’s of yucky rubbish around us, but we knew it was for a good cause. Mr G said “ On your marks, Get set, Go!!!” and we all dashed to the furthest corner, raced to where we could see the most rubbish and we even looked in the class bushes.

We all had to come in and find out who the winners were. I had no hope that my team was going to be the winners, after I saw Toby’s team’s rubbish bag. It was filled up to half way, but if they had a jandle in their bag they would’ve been disqualified from the competition. Than we all lined up in our teams sitting down, and Haare checked the bags. She said she wasn’t quite sure at first because all the bags were so full, so she went for the last bag check. Then she said the winning team is Toby’s team.

Overall even though my friends and I didn’t win I still was proud of all of us because we picked up so much rubbish. We also did it for a great cause to help our school, and our community. I would really like to do this again because it would help our area get cleaner and cleaner.

Task description: In this task room 7 had to write about our experience with picking up rubbish. We went around our area to pick up rubbish and the winning team got a prize.

One day on the beach

Walt: think from the perspective of characters in the story.
Task description: In this task my group had to use screen cast to record our story called One day on the beach. Then on the last slide we had to write a review about the book explaining what it is about, what we learnt and what we liked.
